SmartDeFi is introducing a new value layer: DeFi Risk Assessment. We are seeking General Counsel to help us make that happen.

What is DeFi?

DeFi (Decentralized Finance) is a democratized alternative to the current system CeFi (Centralized Financial), where individuals can take control of their finances without the cost and risks of relying on intermediaries.

What is SmartDeFi?

SmartDeFi is an easy to use, non-custodial investment app which fulfills the needs of traditional investors who want to make their first DeFi investments, but don’t understand the risks involved or how to take the first steps.

Job Description:

SmartDeFi has recently closed Pre-seed funding and will be launching an MVP iOS app in Q4 2021.

The MVP app is built on Idle Finance (DeFi Protocol); Gnosis Safe (Multisig Wallet); Polygon Network (Layer 2 Aggregator); Wyre (Fiat On-ramp); and Torus Labs (Web3 Login).

SmartDeFi is hiring General Counsel for part-time with plans to move to full-time at scale. This is a ground floor opportunity at a funded Web3 startup.

Job Details:

• Oversee and audit company’s legal matters, documents
• Draft, review and maintain contractual documents and templates
• Maintain library of contracts and legal documents
• Create legal disclaimers
• Assist with fundraising, structuring for funding rounds
• Up to date with legal and regulatory trends in blockchain and digital assets to better inform legal advice given to the company
• Proactively identify and provide risk-weighted advice to the business
• Manage day-to-day legal operations within the company (contractual agreements, etc.)

Requirements:

• JD and license to practice law in at least one US jurisdiction
• 5+ years of relevant legal experience at a top national law firm and/or in-house legal department, preferably finance / digital asset expertise
• Experience with early stage fundraising (Seed+)
• Experience drafting contracts and agreements
• Prior experience working in fintech, digital assets, or high-growth tech companies
• Proven ability to proactively, efficiently, and accurately assess legal business risks in a fast-paced environment
• Experience with or understanding of international law
• Understanding of the compliance and regulatory requirements around crypto assets

Compensation:

• Part time with plans to move full time at scale
• Competitive hourly rate TBD based on experience
