The Ethereum Name Service (ENS) is a new naming protocol for the whole Internet. If we’re successful, the whole world will eventually be using it.

We’ve made a lot of progress thus far, but there’s still a lot of work to do. And we need more help! If this sounds exciting to you, read on.

About ENS

ENS names are portable web3 usernames, enable you to easily receive payments in any cryptocurrency, are the foundation of the growing decentralized web, and more — with the self-custody, programability, and security of the Ethereum blockchain. The implications of any one of these use cases are enormous, and ENS does all of them.

And adoption is growing. Two years ago, there were about 25 services with ENS integrated; today there are over 200, including wallets like Coinbase Wallet and Trust Wallet, browsers like Brave and Opera, and dapps like Uniswap and OpenSea.

We’re ready to take it to the next level.

Things we’re working on for the foreseeable future:

  • Expanding DNS namespace integration
  • Scaling ENS records and subdomains
  • Scaling DNS name importation
  • Scaling .ETH name registration and renewal
  • Upgrading ENS name control options
  • Setting up and maintaining an ENS name NFT metadata service
  • Redesigning the Manager App
  • Upgrading reverse resolution registrar
  • Massively expanding the number of services with ENS integrated
  • Further decentralizing root governance

The legal entity with which the ENS team members contract and by which they are paid is True Names LTD. True Names LTD is a non-profit based in Singapore and is the de facto developer/maintainer of the open source project ENS.

True Names LTD and ENS in general are well-funded. You can read more about our finances in our February finance report (check the linked Ethereum wallets for up-to-date info on ETH holdings and of course adjust for the current ETH/USD price).

For legal and accounting simplicity, we all work as hourly contractors and submit monthly invoices. There are no additional benefits (e.g. healthcare), and individuals are responsible for filing and paying taxes according to their own country’s laws (e.g. there is no withholding).

Compensation is competitive and commensurate with role and skills.

General Requirements

Does ENS as a project and its future possibilities get you excited? If not, that’s fine but this isn’t for you. If it does, you’re who we want to talk to!

Our team communicates in English, so you’ll need to be able to both speak and write well enough in it (as a second language is fine).

We have no educational or credential requirements. If you have the skills, can demonstrate them to us, and are excited about building ENS, you’re who we’re looking for.

Ideally, candidates will already have some understanding of ENS, and an understanding of traditional DNS is also a plus. But we’re open to considering someone without experience in ENS, DNS, or even Ethereum if they are otherwise a skilled person and willing to learn. All candidates must be willing and able to learn and become experts in these domains (no pun intended!).

If you haven’t already, please familiarize yourself with ENS. Use our Manager app to register and set up a .ETH name, import a .XYZ DNS name into ENS, carefully read our homepage and Organization page, and peruse our Medium and Twitter.

Location: Remote

It doesn’t really matter to us where you live (unless you live in a country with restrictive economic sanctions from the UN or US, sorry).

The current team’s locations include New Zealand, the United States, Europe, and east Asia. Given our disparate time-zones, you’ll have to be willing to have meetings at times outside normal working hours as needed. Depending on your role and who you’re interacting with this might be more less often.

Right now, we all meet via video chat as a team once every two weeks, and our daily communication is asynchronous chat (Keybase).

Integrations Lead

ENS is only as useful as the number of places you can use it. It’ll be this person’s job to take ENS from 250 integrations to thousands. This will include reaching out to projects, but also making it easier for projects to integrate ENS, e.g. improving libraries, documentation, and answering technical questions in our support channels.

How to Apply

So you’re interested!

Send a CV, examples of your work (e.g. link to your Github account if appropriate), and a cover letter (explaining what kind of work you’re interested in and why the ENS project specifically interests you) and we’ll get back to you shortly.
