Job Description Summary:

PayPal’s Blockchain, Crypto and Digital Currencies (BCDC) business unit is focused on ensuring end-to-end management of PayPal’s underlying product, technology infrastructure, partnerships and regulatory foundations for digital assets to… help enable our support of existing capabilities and markets, as well as drive continued growth in the space.

As a member of PayPal’s Compliance Platforms Engineering team supporting our Blockchain, Crypto, and Digital Currencies unit, you will help shape the foundation for the next generation of financial services by keeping the financial system safer from fraud, money laundering, and other high-risk typologies involving the illicit use of cryptocurrency.

Job Description:

What You’ll Do:

• Play a key role in understanding the world of crypto/blockchain based actions (payments and beyond) and its impact to the world at large
• Map the intersection of blockchain/crypto to PayPal’s ecosystem and specifically around Regulatory Compliance (such as KYC, Sanctions, AML, and more..)
• Provide technical leadership, define architecture best practices and work with Engineering and Product counterparts across the organization.
• Drive both technology and product innovation through rapid prototyping and iterative development.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to build high-quality platform solutions.
• Communicate and solve through ambiguity, being open to feedback while not being afraid to outline the best experience for the end-user

What do you need?

• 2+ years of experience as blockchain developer (overall 12+ years of experience) and advanced proficiency in programming languages (such as Java/C++/Python).
• Back-end system design/architecture/API-design experience along with expertise in algorithms, data structures, cryptography.
• Exposure/expertise in blockchain and cryptocurrency technology such as distributed ledger, consensus, smart contracts, and blockchain protocols (e.g. Ethereum, Hyperledger Fabric, etc.)
• Subject matter expert or ability to research crypto concepts and tools available in blockchain.
• End to end understanding of multiple blockchain based cryptocurrencies/coins (e.g. Bitcoin, Ethereum)
• Exposure to crypto/blockchain analysis tools such as Chainalysis, Elliptic
• Ability to understand and propose integrations between on-chain/off-chain systems.
• Ability to mentor engineers/leaders on blockchain technology.
• Innovation acumen with ability to drive multiple proof of concepts, open-source and enterprise platform tech evaluations, and industry best-practices

Nice-to-haves

• RegTech experience with an understanding of KYC, Sanctions, AML, Compliance Investigations and
• FinTech experience with a deep understanding of payments processing, eCommerce, customer identity, and wallet management.
• Nice to have – NFT/marketplace product experience.
