DevOps Engineer / Node Operator

Interchain is a 20-person company which works on core blockchain technology. We’re headquartered in Berlin, Germany, but our team stretches from New York, NY to Ulyanovsk, Russia. We keep in touch through Github, Slack, and Zoom, and meet in person periodically (when COVID permits). All in all, the software we develop secures billions of dollars in value across many different systems, but we don’t take ourselves too seriously. We strive to build world-class software while having plenty of laughs along the way.

We’re looking for an experienced engineer to lead our efforts around node operation and IBC packet relaying. The Internet of Blockchains includes a protocol called Inter-Blockchain Communication that is based off TCP-IP, however it includes a layer of infrastructure that relays the packets between networks. Take a look at Map of Zones, IOBScan and Mintscan to get an idea of what that activity looks like. In order to ensure there are viable business opportunities for independent relayer operators we want to build a team that ensures high quality relayer activities and we’re looking for an individual to lead this effort.

Activities include:

• Setting up, running, and maintaining relayer infrastructure for the Cosmos Hub
• Running full nodes of all other chains connected to the Cosmos Hub
• Exploring various server architectures to best operate these services
• Running telemetry on transactions
• Creating documentation and learning resources for other relayers and supporting them in getting started
• Customer support for debugging relayer issues

There are no hard requirements on previous experience, but we’re looking for candidates who ideally have:

• Passion for blockchains and decentralized technology. You may have dabbled, are interested in learning more, or already be a blockchain expert. This is one of the most exciting industries to be in and you’re ready to get on board.
• Great communication skills. You speak and write with clarity, and have a high degree of empathy and patience. You are comfortable working with people across company lines and can collaborate with strangers over the internet.
