Role Intro

Ethereal is DeFi’s next major trading protocol and the first built on Ethena. Recently launching Testnet, we’re at $700M+ TVL on track to become a top 10 ecosystem. This is a rare opportunity to join a world class DeFi team.

We’re building a Perps DEX and a full suite trading venue, which will handle over 1 million orders per second delivering CEX level performance, with on-chain security.

This is a remote team who work within AEST, strong preference for AU/NZ location, but all applications must be from timezones within GMT +7 and GMT+13.

About the Role

We’re hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to help design and optimise the core infrastructure across both an on/off chain EVM/Typescript architecture. You’ll be working on high-throughput systems that redefine execution speed and efficiency in DeFi.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Designing and implementing scalable, distributed backend systems to handle millions of orders per second.
• Optimising for latency and performance
• Working with event-driven architectures, real-time data pipelines, and high-throughput APIs.
• Collaborating with front end and protocol engineers to build an entirely new class of DeFi trading infrastructure.
• Ensuring fault tolerance, efficiency, and security across the platform.

What We’re Looking For

Essential Skills:

• Strong experience in backend development using Node.js & TypeScript building applications that have proven to scale
• Deep understanding of and experience with distributed systems * scalability, high availability, and performance tuning.
• Strong experience with CI/CD, AWS.
• Experience building or contributing to production DeFi or web3 projects.

Highly desirable:

• Prior work with real-time trading systems or large-scale on-chain applications
• Solidity/smart contract knowledge is not essential but a bonus.
